Struggling to fit that extra top in your wardrobe? Maybe its time to review your current clothes collection and keep control of your old and new items. This post shares tips on making the most of your current wardrobe and keeping track of what you have.
CREATING AN INVENTORY
The first step I recommend in your journey to a more organised wardrobe is creating an inventory of everything you own. This will give you a clear indication on what you have and you may even find those pair of jeans you've been searching everywhere for, it's a win-win. Separating your clothes into piles will help you identify how many of each item you have, such as a pile for tops, jeans and jumpers.

From looking at what you have, you will be able to identify what items of clothing you need to buy, avoiding risk of buying too many items that you don't currently need in your wardrobe. Moving on, the next stage is to decide what items you want to keep in your wardrobe and the ones you wish to get rid of. The next tip might just help you when making those decisions.
DOES IT SPARK JOY?
If you're unsure about whether to keep an item of clothing, in the words of Marie Kondo, does it spark joy? Ask yourself how many times you have worn the item and can you style it with other pieces in your wardrobe? If you decide to get rid of any of your items, consider one of the following to avoid it ending in landfill:
give to friends/ family
donate to a local charity
contact any fashion brands who use upcycling in their work
Alternatively, if you can't part with the item but want to update the style, there are businesses out there who offer services by turning your current clothes into new ones by designing a completely new piece or pieces.
THINK BEFORE BUYING NEW
Before buying anything new, look at what you've already got and how the new item will work in your current wardrobe. This may be an advantage to carry to ensure you can style it several ways with the clothes you already own. Of course, you can invest in statement pieces that you fall in love with and inevitably buy. In this case, your love for it will result in plenty of wears in years to come.
ACCESSORIES
Accessories can completely transform an outfit, from "okay this fits nice" to "wow". Bags, jewellery and hats will lift your outfit, giving details which finish the look. Having a couple gold jewellery pieces is always a go to when it comes to styling a simple look, throw in a statement bag and voila! Another advantage to having a range of accessories is that you went get bored wearing the same outfit. Mixing up your accessory choice will create completely new styles you can experiment with.
CAPSULE WARDROBE
Keeping a capsule wardrobe can help you keep track of all your garments and allows you to experiment with styling. You don't have to have an entire wardrobe filled with basic white tees and beige clothing for your capsule wardrobe. It's the clothes you love wearing that should live in your home! So, after you have followed the first steps from this post, you will be on the right path to having that tidy wardrobe filled with the clothes you love to wear!

Here's some tips on how you can keep your wardrobe space tidy:
if you've ran out of hanging space, getting boxes to keep t-shirts in will keep your space clean and tidy (this is especially good if you have an open-space wardrobe - like the image above)
sorting your wardrobe into categories will make it easier for you to find what you need and not make a mess along the way when you're franticly looking for those pair of jeans
and finally, when you're trying to find the right outfit and doing a try-on session, remember to put them back - i know its a difficult one but you'll thank yourself later when you're back from your night out
Hopefully this post has given you some tips on how to make the most of your wardrobe from clothing to all your accessories. Leave a comment if you have any other tips, I would love to hear them!
